GINGKO
Logline
The story of two men, whose fates are entwined in an accident: and Irishman who ran over two children, and their Hungarian father, who sacrifices everything to get the perpetrator in jail. The film is based on a real case, and discovers the 15 year long calvary of both families from an objective point of wiew.
Synopsys
Eighteen years ago, an Irish businessman runs over two young children while speeding through a small town in Hungary. In this single tragic moment, the lives of PATRICK MADDOX and ADAM SZECSI become irrevocably intertwined.
The film charts the effects on the families of both men as they deal very differently with the consequences of the horrific motor accident. Maddox flees the country and resists extradition for his crime, while Adam fights for justice, first in the courts of Hungary, then in the highest courts of Ireland and the European Union.
Over the years, this struggle takes a heavy toll on all involved. Adam’s relationship with his wife JULI deteriorates as, unlike her obsessive husband, she tries to leave the tragic past behind. The family of Patrick Maddox also suffers, as he struggles to come to terms with his responsibility for the accident, and as the pressure of Adam’s relentless media campaign becomes too much to bear.
This is a drama about how the search for justice can be muddied by the desire for revenge, but ultimately about forgiveness and the need sometimes to let go of the past in order to move positively into the future.
